These are the questions we are currently asking. They are informed by existing evidence, but are still open; and will be refined as the research develops.

Proposed research questions

1. In your experience, what do secondary schools do to identify struggling readers at KS3 and what interventions do they put in place?

2. How do secondary schools judge whether Year 7 and 8 reading interventions have been successful and sufficient?

3. To what extent do schools believe reading is a barrier to learning at KS4 and to access GCSE?

4. What are the current practices in schools to address struggling readers - particularly in later secondary to help access GCSEs - and how successful and sufficient are they felt to be?  What should be expanded upon and what should be de-emphasised? What is the evidence for their success?

5. What can be learnt from the reading support given to SEN students?
