Reading-Gap
Our Research Project
This project is commissioning a limited number of practitioner conversations as part of an early-stage research programme on struggling readers in secondary schools.
These conversations are the primary source of insight for the research at this stage. They are intended to help shape ongoing research questions, concepts, and areas of focus, rather than to test or validate particular approaches

Who the conversations are with
We are interested in speaking with secondary practitioners whose roles involve responsibility for overseeing or implementing work to address the needs of struggling readers. This includes:
-
School Literacy Coordinators
-
School Improvement Leads
-
Deputy Heads whose remit covers literacy / struggling readers
-
SENCOs

What the conversation involves
-
The conversation is structured but informal and no preparation is required. The purpose is not to evaluate practice or compare schools, but to understand how reading-related issues are understood and addressed in real settings.
-
Participants are known to the research team in order to understand context and experience but contributions are anonymised and reported in aggregate. Individual comments are not attributed to named practitioners, schools, or trusts.
